Do I need to register?
No, but if you do you'll get a lot more from the site. As a casual user you will though still be able to browse most sections of our site, and it's all absolutely free. Provided of course that you are a bona-fide individual user!
What can I do as a registered user?
The fundamental concept is that we want to make it easy for users to actively participate and publicise their experiences on what's happening in and around Cambridge.
Once you register, you will be able to post news and events, as well as being able to comment on news and events. You will also be able to maintain your own personal profile for other users to see.
Do I need to fill in my User Profile?
No, you can even leave your User Profile blank. But keep in mind that without a User Profile, other users of CamTechNet will not be able to see any information about you, aside from your username.
The User Profile page allows you to enter information about yourself, and your online presence (web-sites, blogs, twitter profile, etc). These fields are completely optional, so you can enter as much or as little detail as you wish. We hope that you will use the fields to tell other users about yourself, and inform them of your activities. But we have also given you the option to flag your private fields as not visible, if you so wish.
Can all users see my Profile?
If you post any content to the site, your username will appear against the entry. Any user can then navigate to your profile page, and view the information on the news and events you have submitted.
In addition, the Profile page also shows all the information about the "favourites" that you have selected. We thought this would be a neat way to facilitate sharing of information amongst users with similar interests.
How do I add to My Favourites?
Once you are logged on, you can browse to any of the detail pages in the site. There in the top right - hand corner you will find a star symbol. To select an item as a favourite simply click on the star. If you want to deselect it, click again. It's that simple. Once you have selected a favourite, it will appear in your personal Profile page.
Are all our jobs "real"?
Absolutely! We retrieve them every night from company public web-sites, so you will not find fake jobs. At present our search engine is still evolving, so you may find jobs that are live on a company web-site, but for which the closing date has already passed.
Does anyone monitor the site content?
We will monitor the user news and events content posted on our site and, if necessary, remove undesireable content. If you want more information on this aspect, please see our Terms of Service.
Suggestions and Feedback
We're young and it's likely we'll get some things wrong. Or maybe you want to tell us how great our site is! Either way, you can send us your views at feedback@camtechnet.info.
