Abcam, a successful and growing bioscience company, is a web-based business specializing in the production and sale of protein detection and regulation research reagents to scientific research organizations. We have offices in the UK, USA, Japan and Hong Kong. Our head office is based in Cambridge, UK.
This is an exciting new role within the Corporate Services Team and an opportunity to actively shape the health, safety and environmental strategies of an energetic and dynamic company. We value the health and safety of our staff and customers and the post holder will be central to not only clearly defining our strategy but ensuring this is effectively delivered across all our offices.
The Corporate Health, Safety and Environment Manager will work closely with our existing health and safety team in the UK together with those responsible for the function in the US, Japan and Hong Kong coordinating health and safety activities and taking overall responsibility for the annual audit process. You will lead health and safety and be the go to person when clarifying the standards various offices should be working to. The promotion of health and safety will also be a central responsibility.
Candidates will hold the NEBOSH diploma and a science degree together with experience of working in health and safety within a scientific environment. It is essential that applicants can support and advise on laboratory issues including cryogenic facilities, COSHH (biological & chemical hazards) and GMOs. Candidates will need exceptional interpersonal skills to be able to persuade and influence stakeholders, be well organised and have excellent IT skills. While this will be a busy and full role it is anticipated that initially it could be undertaken on a flexible part time basis.
Applicants may already be chartered members of IOSH or wish to work towards this.
